Jon Hewitt
I have both Minolta lenses. For the MD 50mm f/1.4 I am using the FOTGA MD-NEX adapter. What adapter is needed for thePF 5mm f/1.7 on the a6000. What are your comments on the quality of each and how do they rate relative to each other
Advertisement Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Hi Jon Hewitt, Take a look here Minolta MD 50mm f/1.4 & Minolta MC Rokkor - PF 55mm f/1.7 on a6000. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Jaf-Photo
Same adapter. MC and MD (and SR) lenses had the same dimensions. They just had different mechanics for aperture control. This is irrelevant when adapting.
nomad
My MC PG 50mm f1.4 is sharp as a razor, but the bokeh is a bit busy. The 55mm f1.7 is a tad softer, but has the better bokeh. It's nice to have both, and the 55 should be cheap.
Guest Jaf-Photo
The 50/1.4 is a good lens to use with an extender, due to its sharpness and appropriate focal length. That also smoothens out the bokeh, although it's not bad to begin with. That's how I use it. The 55/1.7 was mass-produced. I would give it a miss and look for the 58/1.4 or the 45/2 instead. They are much better and have character that set them apart.
#tf
Tested all MD 50mm lenses (except Macro version):Minolta MD 50mm f/1.2Minolta MD 50mm f/1.4Minolta MD 50mm f/1.7Minolta MD 50mm f/2.0And total sharpness comparison:Minolta MD fifties battleOne note - speaking of sharpness, the weakest MD will be better than the best MC. In any case, I could not find any refutations to this.
