It can take APS-C lenses, but APS-C crop on a7II

leaves you with about 10 Megapixels. ...........

True, but a false problem. I use the Clear Image

Zoom instead of the crop. Not only do I maintain

the 24MP pixel count, but I don't hafta settle for

a 1.5X factor. Many APSC lenses only require a

1.2X factor on the CIZ.

####################################

Example: Using a SpeedBooster on my 85/1.5

I wind up with a 60/1.1 that is not intended for a

FF sensor, but the image circle is much bigger

than needed for the APSC 1.5X factor. So I use

it at 1.3X of CIZ. This creates an 80/1.1 that is

covering FF at 24MP. Using CIZ maintains the

MP count but does reduce resolution [but does

not reduce sharpness]. I accept the resolution

loss to benefit from the lens speed increase.

Agreed, go for the a6500 and spend the extra money on a good lens.

I've used APSC lenses on the A7 and yes it did cause the crop factor and lowered the size of the file. Frankly any member of the A7 family is so damn powerful that I didn't care. 75% the speed of light is still fast!

If you're thinking about upgrading to full frame for the long term you could use your old APSC lenses. But you won't see the real benefits of the A7 series with out a full frame lens so I'd recommend at least starting out with one full frame lens. Your APSC lenses can still be used when needed.
