Time for an upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hi, all,

I've had my Nex7 since Feb 2012 and have been very pleased with it.

I've stated on this forum that I'd not seen the sense in upgrading to either a6000, or a6300.

Now, I think the time is right to move to the a6500.

O.k. so the price is a bit steep here in England.

O.k it doesn't have dual card slots.

O.k the screen doesn't have all the 'selfie' swivel features.

O'k the Fuji press still fault the handling.

O.k. etc. etc.

But to me its paper spec. is the real deal.

It has just about all the improvements I've asked for.

Early 'hands on' press comments are generally favourable.

It seems to have the same build quality of the Nex7.

After nearly 5 years waiting, I've pre-ordered!!

Anybody else feel the same?

Regards.

Should be good. It's a very nice camera but, as you say, the price is a bit steep. I think it will be a quantum leap compared to your NEX-7.

I think you're acting right. I will buy the A 6500 in December also. It will help me to get sharper shots with my three non-OSS Zeiss-primes and a few fantastic vintage lenses, p. e. the Minolta CE-Rokkor 4,0/90 mm. I just hope you are not going to sell the great NEX-7, you should keep it as a backup camera!

Do´nt mind the talk from the Fuji community, they should take care about Fuji and not about Sony!

Good luck!

IBIS is the best thing about the adaptability of

the a7-II for vintage lenses. I value IBIS a bit

more for my FF cameras than I would for use

with an APSC. Reason is that vintage lenses

are all FF lenses. IBIS would certainly serve

equally well regardless of format, but I tend to

use native lenses on APSC exactly because

there're OSS lenses among the native line up.

OTOH there are quite a few very inviting prime

lenses for APSC that lack OSS, so IBIS opens

the door to those. But for vintage lenses I find

APSC format less appealing due to its reduced

field of view. I 'd love to indulge in an a6500 to

match it with a Classic Trio of E-mount primes !

But for me "indulge" is the operative term. I'm

not that indulgent toward Sony, cuz Sony has

not earned that from its users .... and shows no

inclination to get a clue.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

I'm sticky to the APSC format, as I've got a fair few lenses and the LA-EA3 adaptor for my old Minolta glass.

Trade in deals are not very generous either!

I also like the slightly smaller form factor viz the a7 series and their FE lenses.

No, I'm not getting rid of the Nex7, it still produces lovely images if it's not too dark and the subject is not moving too fast! Sort of like most film cameras did!

As regards the Fuji 'press', I read a magazine here in Britain called Amateur Photographer. In a back number they ran a series of articles suggesting that DLSRs might eventually be phased out in favour of 'mirrorless'. Apart from a brief nod to the A7RII, you might have thought that Fuji and Olympus had the 'mirrorless' field to themselves! Shameless.

More in December, when, hopefully, I've had a chance to put a new a6500 through its paces.

Best regards.
