Back-Button Focusing and Stabilization

Recommended Posts

I've been using back-button focus for years on my Canons. When I let up on the back-button stabilization says on which is great when using long lenses.

Now that I have a couple of a7R II's and an a6300 I have set them up for back-button focusing.

One thing that drives me crazy, though, is that if I remove my thumb from the configured button the image stabilization turns off too. Is there any way to keep stabilization tied to the shutter button and only transfer focus to the back button?

Seems to me, on my a7-II, using BBAF, that

IBIS activation remains with the shutter button.

Also, my a7-II is the source of IS for all my

non OS MF lenses ... Nikkors and Maxxum-A

[Maxxum lenses are MF when using LA-EA3].

I definitely have IBIS for my MF only lenses,

so it must be activated at the shutter button ...

UNLESS if some other button is activating the

IBIS, that activation would linger on for a long

time cuz I have all my delay/linger settings set

to maximum convenience, but minimal battery

life, long sustaining "ON" periods for metering

and other activaions that are annoying when

they shut down if I pause to think or whatever.

Whatever else you find in solving this, do try

extending all your "ON" settings to the max and

just carry 1 or 2 more batteries than you have

been carrying currently. It makes everything

about push-button life less annoying :-)

Thanks for your response. I think I've confused myself here. After performing a complete system reset on my a7R II, and then reconfiguring my camera the IS not performs as I think it should with Back-Button Focus. Hmmm... I'll look into this further.
