Problem with pop-up flash firing

I just purchased a Sony Alpha 6300 from Best Buy.  Today was the first day I used it and I can't seem to get the popup flash to fire. Is it me or is the camera defective? I tried multiple setting - automatic, P, A, S -etc. - no setting allowed the popup flash to work.  Any ideas?? Thanks!

I don't think the flash pops up automatically (like on a DSC R1) you need to press the little button with a lightning bolt.
