Using shutter button on RMT-DSLR2 remote causes refocus

Recommended Posts

I have been using my Sony a7R ii with rear button focus successfully. I purchased the RMT-DSLR2 remote control and have been trying to use it for long exposure photos. The trouble I am running into is when I pre-focus on an object, then compose the photo, the camera focuses again when I hit the remotes shutter release. It does not do this when I hit the regular shutter button. I have gotten around the issue by using the 2 second shutter delay and hitting the regular shutter button for now. Does anyone have any ideas what setting I may be missing to cause the remote's shutter button to focus again?

I hope this helps, I have the af/mf button on the camera back (the menu choices on my camera are Toggle or Hold) I set to hold then set my focus options to MF.

Pressing the little af/mf button kicks in the auto focus then leaving go the button camera reverts to MF so when I press my remote it fires without any further focusing movement . On my NEX-7 it works, so worth a try.
