You only have one year warranty, so it's important to see if it was registered by previous owner and date of purchase. Beyond that, you may just want to contact Sony. I have never had issues with any of my Sony cameras, someone else may know more.

AFIK, warranty only extends to the original purchaser in 99% of purchases. You do not say if you are buying new in box or new to you? what is important if secondhand and still in warranty is a copy of the original sales slip and the address of the original person who registered it. that gives you the means to ask for warranty as you have "moved" to your address.

if you are buying new from ebay I would ask Sony directly if the seller is recognised and will warranty be offered by Sony.

There are plenty of instances both good and bad where warranty was' and was not, honoured by ebay and on line sellers of new equipment.

you could also take out Ebay warranty as well its good value for money I think

Some good advise above. I think a short answer that is pretty helpful is that a warrantee is only as good as the receipt. Always ask the seller for the original receipt like on nearly new or mint camera. You may not get one, but if you don't ask you surely won't get one. Also remember that there are many good technicians out there that can fix many problems -- of course you have to look around and check them out for sure... Good luck.
