Sony Time-lapse App vs intervalometer for a6000

Recommended Posts

Hi

I’ve been using a Sony A600 for more than a year and I would like the possibility of taking time-lapse. A saw two options:

- The playmemories app for $10

- Getting a multi-port to 2.5mm converter and then any intervalometer, total around $20

Does anyone tried both? Do you now advantages and disadvantages of each method?

Many thanks

I used to use an external intervalometer but nowadays I use the app.

This offers me two possibilities.

  • In lazy mode I can have the camera make a movie.
  • When not in lazy mode, I can use the pics to make a 4k timelapse using panolapse

This one is straight out of the camera

This one was edited with music but the videos were as they came out of the camera

The app works pretty well for me.

Although time consuming I set it to shoot raw files, have fun with them in Lightroom, apply to all images, export JPGs in whatever resolution my video-editing friend wants.

My only major complaints at the moments are... That the screen doesen´t really turn off (backlight eats battery time) and the frustration of setting all exposure settings again within the app. Only to find that a specific setting like low/high limit for auto-ISO need to be set before starting the app.

In other words, first-world problems. :)
