a7rv Focus Bracket Kerfluffle

Perhaps I am taking unfair advantage of this feature, taking hand held landscapes which require focus from 3' to 100's. With the 50/1.2, I like to shoot at f/5.6 which I have judged to be sharpest.  I follow up with align and merge in PS.

Here's the problem. I am experiencing uneven behavior. During the shot sequence, the notice "Focus Bracketing..." ( or similar) appears. At the end of the shots, another message, "Bracket End...." (or similar) SOMETIMES appears. If it does, all is well, but if it doesn't, the next sequence results in a single shot & must be repeated, or, less frequently, the camera locks up and requires restart.

It's a kerfuffle, isn't it?
