100-400GM has dust speck inside lens

Recommended Posts

I understand that overtime, lenses will start to get internal dust, however this lens is under a year old and I bought it brand new. It is always well kept as I clean my gear regularly.

Today, I noticed a very recognisable dust speck. I used a blower, and it remained so I got my brush and still it wouldn't go away. after closer inspection I noticed that it is under the glass and on what looks to be the next layer of glass, right in the middle of the glass....

Anyone got any ideas how I can go about getting this removed or even try and move it away from the centre of frame? I will be travelling soon and this lens will be one of my main drivers whilst away

Appreciate any advice anyone has to offer!

That dust speck will not be visible in your photographs.

shows how big the “dust speck” would have to be to be visible.

That post was from Lens Rentals, who deal with more lenses (and more dust) than we are likely to see in our lifetimes. They do remove dust from their lenses, disassembling them if need be, but that’s mainly because their customers expect to see dust-free (or nearly) lenses when renting.
