JpFlaKeys
I've owned this camera for a few years and was able to rename file folders with the dates, now it reverts to a basic folder number sequence. How can I change this back to dates? My firmware is ver 3.01, yeah I know there are newer firmware versions but I've never had any problems with my camera, been working just fine and happy with image quality. I use it for real estate photography & that's it, take out the sd card, remove images then re-insert back in to camera. I don't send to computer, I don't control with smart phone, I don't use Wifi or Bluetooth settings. Besides I did do an update on my A7II years ago & all m y camera settings changed back to default, hence why I haven't done any updates, I don't want to go through that again. Thanks for reading. FunWithCameras
This IS the date sequence version! Look at the last 5 digits of the folder name. On the first folder those last five digits are 30313, and the date is 2023-03-13 - and look at the last first digits of that date: 30313. You can see that all the other folders match that pattern. It's the last digit of the year, two digits for the month, two digits for the day. I think having just the last digit of the year is enough. Even if you own the camera for ten years, you can glance at the dates inside the folder to disambiguate them. And it starts with a folder number, just in case it overflows one folder and had to create another one for the same date (you know, when you shoot 10 000 JPEGS on a single day!) JpFlaKeys
Ok I see what you mean. It use to print out as the date shown like on the right except for the /. I've been dealing with this for so long now if I remember correctly it was like 03-14-22,(M-D-Y) something like that. I could have multiple folders and read at a glance. Wish I could still see it that way. Thanks for your response. Jp
JpFlaKeys
FunWithCamera...Forgot to mention that I thought I may have created a glitch that caused this to change. There have been times when my camera just froze and couldn't take a photo or said it couldn't read the sd card. My remote control shutter release button would get stuck, took awhile to figure this one out, I couldn't figure out what was going on so I turned my camera off or had to release the battery to break the connection, hence causing a possible glitch with the software. Once I figured out it was a stuck button I didn't have the problem anymore but noticed the date sequence changed.
FunWithCameras
That’s odd, but I don’t think it would cause that to change. That sort of change requires a firmware change. Here’s a thought - have you changed the software you use to download? I’m just wondering if you were using software which translated that admittedly obscure format into something more human readable? Maybe Imaging Edge? Edited April 4 by FunWithCameras
JpFlaKeys
FunWithCameras - I haven't updated the firmware lately, the last time I did was soon after I purchased it. Like I said in my earlier post it's been working just fine and when I did the first firmware update it changed all my setting and did not want to go through all that again. Maybe its time to rethink and give it a try when I have time. Have you had the same experience losing all your settings with a firmware update? As for the camera I like it a lot but every now and then I have a little glitch here and there. I have 2 sony sd cards and once in awhile I'll turn it on and it isn't reading the card, once I re-insert it makes contact. Yesterday I cleaned the sensor and took a test image, it showed the image being taken but would not show up on the back screen or through the view finder. Said it was unavailable. I inserted the card in my pc and there it was but does not show up in camera, very strange. (Just purchased 2 new sony cards less then 4 months ago) I reformatted the card in camera then it worked fine. I'm very careful with my gear, always in a camera bag when not in use, never dropped, it's my work camera so I really treat it carefully. Like I said maybe its time to try an update. Little here little there it all starts to add up.
