I am just in the process of trying to shoot some S-Log3 footage instead of using PP1.  I am having some issues:

  1. Some of the footage is super dark
  2. Some of the footage looks completely blown out on the display

When i am recording I notice that the ISO is flashing 640 on the display and I am not sure what this means?

Camera details:
FX3
Log shooting enabled with Gamut3.cine/Log3
Flexible exposure mode
ISO set to ISO-Auto
Select LUT = s-log3

Additionally, if i enable log shooting I can only record externally at 1080p.  If i disable log mode shooting but enable s-log3 and Gamut3.cine in the picture profile I have 2160 available in the external output section.

Don't have an FX3 so I'll only comment on what I know:

It is normal for S-Log footage to look really dull out of the camera. Needs grading in post to look nice.

Do you have shutter speed and aperture fixed? In S-Log3 the base ISO is 640 (pre-2.0 firmware, 800 after) so you can't go any lower than that. If the scene is overexposed, your camera can't compensate so ISO will start flashing to indicate the bottleneck.

Thanks for the response.  I have the shutter and aperture fixed.  I am on firmware 2.02.

- In this case I guess the only option i have if shooting in s-log3 mode is to either

  1. Add a stronger ND?
  2. Close down my apeture so as the retain the 180 degree shutter angle?

As an aside, I figured out the recording externally issue as well.  When i have log shooting enabled I needed to disable the "Record Internally" on the output settings and this enabled the 2160p mode.

Those are indeed your options.
