Viewfinder mirrors were the first to go, I think mechanical shutters will be next. In 5-10 years I could see all the top tier camera makers start doing away with mechanical shutters altogether. I say it will start with the lower line cameras (think 6400, A7c) and work up to the pro level offerings.

Could you see Sony being the first?

I guess you missed some tech news the last few years. Sony already was the first company to produce a fullframe camera that did photography without mechanical shutter: the A9. It only needed its mechanical shutter for flash sync. Now with the A1, the mechanical shutter has lost its use entirely as it can even do flash sync with the electronic shutter. Nikon released the flagship Z9 last year, which is the first fullframe camera to completely do without the mechanical shutter. The tech started in the very top tier and will trickle down slowly to the lower line cameras.
