My lens has been in and out of repair over the last couple of months, the glass has been replaced and the AF motor recalibrated but there seems to be an unresolved issue.

If you have a 70-200 2.8 GM, please try this out for me AF-C, 5/10/20 FPS - hold down the shutter whilst tracking.

The video here will help you understand the noise I get, sounds a bit like grinding. Doesn't happen when acquiring focus, or taking a photo in AF-S - just during a continuous shoot in AF-C.

I've tested it on two Sony A1, the same.

Please let me know if this is normal.

Just to add,

if I disable IS, no difference

if I switch to MF, it's silent

I have 24-70 GM, 100-400 GM, 24 GM, 35 GM, 50 ZA, 85 GM, 135 GM - all silent.

Are you sure it is the lens making the noise, and not the camera shutter - as you imply that the noise occurs when using continuous shooting (5, 10, 20 FPS)

Does it happen when you hold the barrel of the lens? Could it be vibration from continuous shooting making the lens housing rattle?

Does the quality of the photo suffer?

It is the lens, the camera is using electronic shutter.

I tried holding/squeezing the barrel of the lens, but it makes no difference.

The quality of the photo is fine.

I read the 85mm can be noisy, so I checked it and it makes a similar noise but much much quieter
