Meike MK-A7II Pro Built-in 2.4GHz Wireless Control Battery Grip for Sony A7 II as Sony VG-C2EM

Following the SAR revellation that the Meike A7 11 battery grip is suitable for the A7Rii, I bought one - from Amazon

I couldn't fit it to my A7Rii camera as, despite it being said (in the manufacturer's blurb) to be suitable, the battery flap on the A7Rii opens the wrong way. That is  downards towards the centre of the camera & NOT, as with my previous Sony cameras, outward so that the flap hangs to the side when the grip iis fitted.

I can only assume that in order to fit it you must first have to remove the camera's battery flap completely but, as the camera is brand new - & under Sony's 3 year guarantee, I am reluictant to do so (I don't know how anyway!) as it will surely invalidate the guarantee.

Have I got something wrong, and if so, can anyone explain it please??

The battery door on the A7rII is made to be removed so it should not void any warranty.  It is very easy to do.  I don't have my camera in front of me now but if you open the battery door, on the inside of it you should see a small piece of plastic in about the middle of the door.  Place you fingernail on it and it should swivel in one direction and this will cause the prongs on the battery door to retract.  It is very easy to do.    I had to do this to fit my RRS L-bracket to the camera.  Good luck.

I also have one and it works flawlessly.

You need to remove the battery door the same way you would when you use the standard Sony battery grip.

Have a look on the grip, there is a space to attach the battery door to the grip so that you will not loose it and it stays with the camera all the time.

I now feel a little stupid as I have found what you have described to me in the 'manual' that came with the Meike Grip.

My only defense is that it is far too small for my presbiotic eyes & (to be fair) the explanation could have been much bettter.

Nevertheless, I am embarrasssingly contrite!

Thank you once again for you imput.

Toshanco.

    • I'd opt for a small zoom, but I must admit that there seems to be a dearth of lenses in the e-mount in the 24-50mm range -- for some reason.  I have a small 24-70mm, but that's an a-mount Tamron.  Maybe you can find something by looking at lenses slightly longer.  I have a heavy, but small 24-100mm a-mount, and Tokina made a 24-200mm a-mount.  Maybe there are similar lenses in the e-mount.  Kill three birds with one stone.
    • Well this! Thank you! I have been following suggestion after suggestion for the past 3 hours with my a7CR and never thought of removing the battery. Magic!
    • I recently got an a7cii and to pair with the compact body, I thought of getting 2 of the trio compact lenses, 24mm F2.8 and 40mm F4.0. (I already have a 70-200mm) However I stumbled upon the newly released 24-50mm F2.8 G. I'm not sure which to get - I like the small factor of the prime lenses ON the body because it's discreet and helps me blend in as an average tourist / doesn't make it obvious when doing street. But if I add the dimensions of the 2 primes together, it takes up more space in the bag than the zoom lens. BUT THEN, the weight of the 2 prime lenses is 110g lesser than the zoom lens. The zoom lens has the added benefit of being more versatile.   So now I'm stumped. Each has their pros and cons and I can't decide which to get. I'd like to hear the views of you guys who are more experts at this.   Edit: I'm a bit concerned about weight because the last time I went overseas my shoulders were aching from carrying too much. Which is why I was looking for small compact primes in the first place.
