A7000 (A6100) won't be released?

Recommended Posts

I agree.  I think that there never was an A7000, and the heating issue related to the DX100r4.  They solved the heating problem by limiting the recording time to 4 minutes and then released the r4.    SA has been so wrong so often in the last few months that I don't really believe anything they say; I think they're being strung along by Sony.

Pity about the lack of either A6100 or A7000 as I would have jumped.

I'm currently using my mobile for pics (yes,  yes I know),

However I would rather continue to do this than purchase a 1 year old camera for $600+ and have it be superseded in 4-6 months.

I'm just going to sit it out and wait.

Yep I would also bite.

At the moment I've actually got tired of waiting and am going to go for a Sony Refurbished A6000 and 2 lenses (16-50mm F3.5-5.6 and the 55-210mm F4.5-6.3) for $630 and then I'll sell up if the newer A7000 is a large enough step up.

Also going to need a fast lens for portraits of family etc so will most likely also splash out on the 35mm F1.8  which has had good reviews.

Only saving grace is that these can move with me to my newer upgrade once Sony get their act together.

would be neat to see a a8000 but i suspect the 8 series has been phased out for good.

There never was a long term "8-series".

Sony follows the Sony and Minolta model

number scheme which is always the odd

numbers [usually 3-5-7-9] with 9 always

being the "flaghship" top of the line model

and 3 being the least expensive, entry

level to the system, etc.

They had never slotted any even number

models between the 3-5-7 levels until

the very recent 6000 ... and this is a

first and only "Six Series" looking all

the way back to the Maxxums.

So, never seen a "Four Series", only a

single "6" in 30 years, but there does

seem to a be long tradition of slotting

an "8" in just below the flagship, all

the way back to the Maxxum era. The "8"

comes and goes over 30 years, but was

recently with us as the A850, a very

slightly lower-spec'ed A900 [typical

for the occasional "8" model].

So anywho, the "8" slot can't really be

thought of as discontinued at any point

cuz it's never been "really real" ...

and it is looking like the "6" slot is

also a similar phenomenon.

On a day with nothing else to do one could

spend hours thinking up the perfect way of

designating cameras...

+1

But thaz YOUR day with nothing else to do.

At Sony marketing headquarters, somebody,

maybe a whole team of somebodys, doesn't

see it as a day with nothing happening ... cuz

at Sony, it's some somebody on-the-job !

Good points all. The last 6 series camera i had prior to my a6000 was a 650si date and that was well over 12 years ago. and i think the 650si was actually released in 1995 so that would make it about 20 years between it and the a6000.

I suspect we will see a low end 4 series soon

ACtually

The 650si was actually released in 1995

then the a67 released in 2011

then the NEX-6 in 2012

then the a6000 in 2014.

So the 6 series has had spurt in resent years.

( a6100 next? who knows )

The 8000i with the "white wedding camera" option was released in 1989

and then the 800si 1997

then the a850 in 2009

About 12 years between the 800si and a850 ( or roughly 10 years apart for the 8 series)

(So speculatively another 8 series could appear around 2019)

As you brought out the most plentiful series were the 3, 5, 7

Im not going to even get into the 2 and 4 series line.

3 series

x-300, x300s, 3000i, 3xi, 300si, 350si, Maxxum 3, DiMAGE 3, a300, a330, a350, a380, a390, a37, NEX-3 a,b,k,n, a3000

(a3100 next? Very likely)

5 series

a5 (rangefinder), sr505, XD-5, x-500, x570, 5000, 5xi, 5000i, 500si, 505si (ST-I), Maxxum 5, 5D, DiMAGE 5, a500, a550, a560, a580, a55, a57,a58, NEX-5 (5t, 5n,5r,), a5000, a5100

(a5 in the works? humm , may be)

7 series

SR-7, XD-7, XG-7,X-7, x700, x-7a, 7000, 7000i, 7xi, 700si, Maxxum 7 (AKA a-7), 7D, DiMAGE 7, a700, a77, a77II, NEX-7, a7, a7r, a7s, a7II, a7rII

( a7000? maybe.)

9 series

XG-9, x-9, 9000, 9xi, Maxxum 9, a900, a99

(a9 in the future? Very Likely)

Then there are the single X and 1 series these usually mark a change of direction, thinking or ownership in the Sony/Konica/Minolta company.

There's also a few model numbers that occasionally jump around within the quality levels of the different series.

I know i left out a lot cameras, but these are the ones i could remember.

Nice list OldNoob, you've got a good memory. One small correction, it's A65, not A67. It is an A77 sensor and guts in a smaller body with a shorter list of bells and whistles. A67 would have been a logical model, but not what Sony chose. Suppose the 5 doubles down on the leading 6 for the shorter feature list.

  • 1 month later...

I have an SLT-A57 that I have been wanting to replace with the "rumored" A6000 upgrade.  Now I'm wondering if it will ever happen.  It appears that Sony has pretty much shifted their attention away from any APS-C interchangeable lens bodies.  I wish I could justify $3K for a new, full-frame mirrorless body (they look fantastic) and glass, but there's no way I can do it.  I'm seriously thinking about selling all of my SLT equipment and jumping to a competitor's mirrorless system (Fuji or Olympus?) at this point unless there is some official assurance from Sony about a future for mirrorless APS-C.  I'm just tired of waiting...

Bored now Sony.

What I want is the a7000/6100 whatever as a toe in the water with Sony.

In my mind, I buy one as a test and within a couple weeks my Nikons are gathering dust and I'm ordering A7RII's.

But no joy, just more no megapixel high ISO video rubbish.  :D

Seriously, pull your finger out Sony..  :P

How about $448?  See link:  http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1029861-REG/sony_ilce6000_b_alpha_a6000_mirrorless_digital.html

Price reductions are to move current inventory before a new release.
