Problem with the $1396 Amazon Sony A7r + Grip bundle deal

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I ordered two bundles. For the first bundle, Amazon shipped the camera and the grip, but not the bag and the SD card. For the second bundle, they haven't shipped anything at all yet, (order was placed on Saturday through 2-day shipping).

My question is: Has everyone received their orders for this bundle? I have spoken to the customer reps who keep telling me there is 'hold' because the grip isn't in stock, I told them to ship everything that's in stock while I wait for other items, but they tell me they don't have any authority to clear the 'hold'. First customer rep told me there was a pricing error and that the orders might be canceled (they had already shipped the first order). Second rep told me that the in stock items (everything but the grip) will be shipped through one day shipping, while I wait on the grip, I agreed to that.

Then last night when the in stock items were again not shipped, I chatted with the third rep who told me that the order is on 'hold' and that he can do nothing to clear the hold. He just told me to wait or to cancel and reorder. Except for the first rep, no one else told me anything about the 'pricing error' and that the order may be canceled.

I though about it and seemed like it would be disastrous for Amazon to cancel these orders right before thanksgiving sale, which would convey the message that Amazon cannot be trusted for their own deals. My guess is, if the management decides not to go ahead with the orders that haven't yet been shipped, they're probably going to delay shipments until the thanksgiving and then cancel the order. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do about this?

It sure looks like a pricing error.

Amazon is obligated to fulfill the order, however there is nothing that requires them do do it cheerfully.

Eventually, everything should appear. If they continue to be problematic ask to speak with a supervisor and then mention to the supervisor, if they try to wiggle out of the deal. That your next step is your state's "buyer protection" office. Most state's attorney general has some kind of buyer protection function to handle this sort of problem.

Amazon would love for you to cancel the order. That gets them out from under the problem of a mis-priced offering.

BTW, I have one of the Meike grips, works well. No Sony grip experience to compare with though.

    • That's supposed to be a pretty good APS-C lens. Can you try it on a different camera just for the heck of it? Friend? Camera shop? The lens is noted for sharpness, so if you're having as much trouble as you say, you may want to look into a replacement or repair.
    • Hi everyone, I’m reaching out to the community because I’m facing a persistent image quality issue with my Sony 70–350mm f/4.5–6.3 G OSS lens, and I’d like to know if this is normal behavior or if my copy is defective. Problem description: I’ve extensively compared the 70–350mm G OSS with my Sony 18–135mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS, using a Sony A6700, under controlled conditions: • Identical lighting and background • Same subject and position (LEGO figure, consistent framing) • Tripod or steady support • Manual focus or AF with center point • Same shutter speed (e.g., 1/200s), similar ISO (ISO 4000–6400), RAW + JPEG • OIS turned on (and also tested with OIS off) My observations: • At 135mm, the 70–350mm G OSS delivers softer, flatter images than the 18–135mm, even when stopped down. • At 350mm, the sharpness drops significantly – the center is soft, and textures (like LEGO tiles or fabric) appear blurred or smudged. • Contrast and micro-detail are noticeably inferior across all focal lengths. • The 18–135mm at 135mm (even cropped) retains better edge sharpness and detail definition. • Both JPEG and RAW files confirm the issue – this is not just JPEG processing or noise reduction. Question to the community: • Have others experienced similar softness with the 70–350mm? • Is it possible I have a decentered or optically misaligned copy? • Is there a known issue with OSS introducing softness at long focal lengths? I wanted to love this lens due to the range and portability, but currently it’s unusable for anything where image quality matters. I’m considering returning or sending it for service. Thanks in advance for any feedback or comparison results you can share.
