So I have this Sony Zeiss 24-70 f4 with the inside elements got chipped? it doesn't have visible effect on the photo.

when I shake it, it doesn't seems to have any parts flying around the inside. and the outer part of the lens is fine, just somehow the one in the middle is like that. so I have some questions if anyone have experience with it.

1) Do I need to replace it right away? (like the chipped parts will crawl and break the whole lens element altogether, which probably damage even more lens parts if left unattended)

2) around how much did it cost you for single element replacement for reference.

I've had legacy lenses with chipped elements. Like you, I didn't notice any effect on the images. I presume it's because the light doesn't pass that close to the edge.

The main risk I can see is that glass particles might eventually spread and affect the image.

Repairs would probably be uneconomic, as Sony charges a lot even for simpler lens repairs. The barrel is probably deformed by the impact. So, it might be better to find a used copy to replace the lens.

You could always bring it in to a good dealer and ask what they think it would cost to fix. They've probably had some previous cases.
