Resolution charts for Batis 85mm?

Recommended Posts

I'm really close to pulling the trigger on a Batis 85mm. Does anyone have a resolution test chart shot to share? Barring a chart shot - a brick wall shot? I find them immensely useful together with the many samples I see in here and on Flickr. My Batis will double as a portrait lens and a copy work lens for my oil paintings, where frame to frame sharpness is critical. (I'm not interested in the Sony 2.8/90 macro as I will shoot many more portraits than I will do copy work.)

So... if you have a flat plane shot in which I can judge corner/edge sharpness, you're a star.

He is discussing such things, field curvature, CA, and so on.

A resolution test chart, or brick wall, is not necessary for Batis lenses. They have a flat field focus, perfect for Swedish mountain landscapes and oil paintings. You want this Lens, or an Otus, or Both ... at the same time ...

Thanks a lot firemist! It's just a pity how hard this forum compresses the images...

Translation: It's just a pity how slow the internet is in the USA.

Fast internet would acoarst allow larger files to load in reasonable

time. At present, an image-laden site like this one would be crazy

sloooow if larger files were allowed. Even sites based outside the

US don't want to sacrifice the US "eyeball market", so most sites

world wide limit their file sizes ... but the pain of small files is most

obvious on visual arts sites, including this one.

You can put your large files in hi rez sites meant for that, and link

to them, as a work-around. But it's best to post matching low rez

versions here as well, rather than only links. Not everyone has the

time, nor bandwidth, to go straight to hi rez sites. They/we/I wanna

see the low rez version, to decide whether to bother with the delay

involved in following a link and loading those large files for viewing.

For me the 85mm f1.8 has become a bit of an addiction. It is just so superb in all ways that I can't help tending to put it on most of the time. I actually just sold my 24-70 f2.8G Master because at 70mm it is the weakest for that lens and the 85mm Batis ran rings around it. I've now been considering a wider lens than my 35mm f2.8 which is now the widest I have. As tempting as the 25mm f2.0 Batis is I wish I had the patience to wait for the 18mm f2.8. No dealer has a clue when they will see them available for sale although it's just rumors regarding end of June (not good for me with NO patience). It even had me considering a 16-35 f4 Sony Zeiss but so many folks love to complain about that one it's got me squeamish. At least I'm quite certain the 25mm Batis would be up to the 85's level of performance. A tough decision indeed.
