To Edit or Not Edit, that is the question.

Recently, I was asked by a dear friend to help him out with a video of his band next month. Me? I have produced about 20 videos that I am proud of to this day but, they were all shot on an iPhone. Now that I have a Sony A7iv, I am pumped to create an even better product. So like my friend, we both share a love to edit our work. Do photographers and videography people shoot photo/video and then hand over the files so someone else can edit? Being new to this world, we all have assumptions and opinions. I just never knew too many people who shot photos and said "here, you edit"

My concern is, what if he edits my footage and I don't like it? What if he corrects the color in a way that I don't see? I could see if I was a hired camera man...Now that we're on the same page, I believe I have the reigns again. IS this odd for me to want to edit my own video?

Since you're 'helping him out', you are indeed a hired gun, pay or not. You should obviously keep a copy of your own work to edit as you see fit, but in the grand scheme of things it's his gig and you're helping.

Question: you don't actually say that he's asked you for the RAW footage, so has the question even been asked? Can you edit your own work and turn it over to him to edit into a single video, or better yet since you're good friends and both enjoy it, suggest working together.
