a7Rii ISO and Shoot Mode functions not available or disabled

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I am new to this forum and relatively new to the a7Rii, having used Canon SLRs and DSLRs for a couple of decades.

I have been shooting with the SONY for 2 months with great success and few issues - until now.

Not sure why or how this happened, but now when using the right key/ISO button on the control wheel I get a message stating "This operation is not available as follows: gamma, s-log 2." Along with this, all ISOs from 64 to 640 are grayed out and inaccessible.

In addition, the custom key setting for Shoot Mode in Functions is also grayed out and inaccessible. I get a message stating "This function is currently disabled."

I assume I screwed up the settings somehow but I haven't a clue as to how, or how restore functionality. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Top dial is on manual, which BTW is non-functional, as are aperture- and shutter-priority. Picture profile in settings is off. That's as far as I know how to go with regard to ensuring that I am not in video mode. I agree that this seems to have something to do with video, but I do not know enough to know what I am missing here. Any further suggestions? Thanks.

Edit,

Read the next post first before you do this,

In the absence of any other suggestion , try a full reset from the last section in the menues , suitcase , I think, if it's a setting that should fix it hopefully.

Can you still take still images? You don't have the movie red button stuck pressed in or something odd like that do you?

AND

Wait it occurs to me you can change the picture type for various movie effects and I think you might have done this , this setting is in the second menu from the left, but I can't tell more as my camera is in the studio at work, have sloop see if you can find it the first one is correct for stills.

Hood that helps

Friends, thanks for all the replies. Please note that picture profile is NOT enabled, that video is NOT selected on the mode dial, and that the movie button on the side of the camera body is NOT engaged. Camera functioning remains compromised. I contacted SONY tech support and am awaiting a response. I will probably end up doing a system reset, but I am still hoping to avoid that so as not to have to recreate my custom settings. I greatly appreciate all of your suggestions - please keep them coming if you have additional thoughts.

    • I'd really like to find a package deal for an a7R (mk I, second generation) which includes the neckstrap and box. I've searched Ebay and currently no one is listing what I'm looking for. They either have the camera only or a first generation a7R and a lot of them don't offer the Sony neckstrap or box it came in. I know your site doesn't have a formal 'Equipment For Sale' thread and granted Ebay is a better place to sell gear but I thought I'd see if any of the members have one and would like to upgrade to a newer model but don't think anyone would be looking for one that old. The cameras I've been using are in the 20 megapixel range and rather than jumping to a 40mp camera due to file size, the 36mp that the first a7R has was appealing to me and wouldn't break the bank. I've been using Canon and Nikon but really want experience a Sony. If a post like this is undesirable for this website, I understand but I thought I would ask. Thank you.
    • Here's a good thread on the issue.... https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4571046 And here is the info on the A7RIVA that maybe explains why I don't see the issue...  The change in wording that caught my attention is that the new A7RIVA brochure says the structure has been "re-examined and redesigned." Don't know, but given the text of other parts of the brochures are copied word for word, the change in text here seems significant. My reading of this is that it is a redesign of the A7RIV. In that case, perhaps the 200-600 issues are less severe with the new body.
    • I'd opt for a small zoom, but I must admit that there seems to be a dearth of lenses in the e-mount in the 24-50mm range -- for some reason.  I have a small 24-70mm, but that's an a-mount Tamron.  Maybe you can find something by looking at lenses slightly longer.  I have a heavy, but small 24-100mm a-mount, and Tokina made a 24-200mm a-mount.  Maybe there are similar lenses in the e-mount.  Kill three birds with one stone.
