I use the CONTROL WHEEL button to engage focus point movement and the the wheel edge buttons AND/OR THE FRONT AND BACK DIALS to move the point with the CONTROL WHEEL button to return it to center.

Not quite as quick as a joystick, but pretty usable...

And no, this is not the default. I "programmed" it to be that way. Programming is easy. RTFM.

How do you set the focus points on the A7S II like you do on a Canon camera? On the Canon I use the joystick to move the focus point to someone's eyes. What is the equivalent to this on the Sony cameras?

Thanks.

Fwiw, I asked a similar question regarding the A7R II and received some good replies.  You may wish to check that out here.

I'm assuming the menu on the A7R II and the A7S II are nearly identical, if not completely identical.  Go to "Custom Key Setting" which on the A7R II is page 7 of the options under the cog/gear icon.  Set the "Center Button" to "Standard".  This will allow you to press the center button of the control wheel to toggle a "move" mode -- once in that mode you can move the focus point around (or resize the focus point).  Once you have the focus point where you want it, either hit the center button again or just press the shutter release button to exit the mode.

I'm a former Nikon user so I don't have any Canon experience.  However, if you're using Eye AF to focus on the subject's eye and you want the camera to jump to the eye of another subject -- I know of no way to do that, but sure would love that!  However, if that is what you're looking for then I did find a way to do something close.  Rather than explain it myself, check out this YouTube video.  I have experimented with this mode as well.

I am no pro, just a guy who likes to take photos.  I prefer landscapes, but most of the time I'm just photographing my kids.  I am yet to find what I feel is the ideal combination of the various AF options for photographing my kids.
