Sony600 + LA-EA2

Recommended Posts

I use the LAEA2 and I no longer have any A-mount body

for real-time comparison of AF speed, but all my A-mount

lenses seems to AF as quickly as I remember them doing

so on A-mount bodies.

Tracking is of no concern to me. I always use BBAF and

the lenses usually hit focus promptly, sometimes with a

quick very short secondary motion or two as they settle

into "exact" focus. I keep the BBAF on AFC. Switching to

AFS limits the secondary twitches, but I don't trust it. The

little extra twitches seem to assure that the AF system is

extra certain of hitting the best focus, so I prefer AFC.

There is no contrast detection with the LAEA adapter so

there's no assurance of ABSOLUTE focus. Phase detect

AF does not really see an actual IMAGE as the contrast

detect method does. PD sorta triangulates, and can often

be fooled by curvature of field. You have a 2.8 zoom so it

will have some curvature of field. You can microadjust AF

to reduce most of the effect of CoF.
