Hi,

I have installed Sony software on my mac (nMP-tons of memory). When I go to download apps, or do anything online, I get a "turn the camera on and connect it via USB message". The camera shows up in my finder, but the on line connection is never established. Anyone else having this Problem? a7II and a7RII, both running version 2 firmware. I'm a little leery of Sony USB connections since one firmware upgrade killed my a7II even though I did it correctly. I don't want to wait three weeks again to get my camera back.

Cause? Solutions?

I did both of those things, and nothing happened except the "turn camera on...connect" message. I used the same cable to update firmware on both the a7II, and a7RII successfully. Could it be something else? The web site? The download software.

As an aside: why does Sony require a camera connection when downloading to a memory card, and then inserting the card (like Canon) seems like a much less vulnerable and cumbersome process?

I thought you could connect direct from the camera to the internet, using the WiFi, and get Apps that way. Page 80 of the A7ii manual (english version).

Possibly, you can. Whenever doing something that is critical, or requires speed, a hardwired connection should be preferable.

Downloading apps is not critical and does not require speed, so try WiFi if you want something which works. It is a bit of a nuisance to setup, but since I have no patience for Sony and somehow managed it, I guess you can too. IIRC I did plan for an hour of my life to be wasted, which was about on the mark.
