Sony A5100 USB question

Help appreciated please.

Moved from Nikon and bought a new 6700 and a used mint 5100.

The A6700 USB Mass storage connects to my Mac M3 no problem but the 5100 stops at 'USB Mode Connecting.'

I have reset settings and tried all combinations of MASS & LUN in menus.

Cable is assumed to be original and charges the camera, it also has the data logo in the plastic cable end. I have cleaned connector with a spray. Obviously I have to adapt to use USB to C at the Mac end the 5100 being micro usb to USBA

Seems all I can do is try to buy a new cable just to check that route.

Camera is at V3.10
