Help! Lens makes weird noise; would love second opinion

Hope someone can provide a second opinion on this; is this a normal sound for a Sony FE 24-70mm f/4.0 ZA OSS Vario-Tessar when focusing? (see audio I added)

It seems to be when it has issues focusing or when a subject is further away; but it had these issues also in normal lighting conditions, outside when taking a picture of a person standing in nature (aka; nothing too tricky).

To me it sounds like something is off with the AF motor, but shop I bought it from says it's normal. 

I also have to add that besides very often having this noise during shooting, it also one time totally stopped focusing (image was blurry and it didn't focus, even though the camera made a bleep focusing sound). Had to turn camera off and dismount/mount lens for it to work again. Also told this to the shop. 

Would love to hear some more opinions.
