  1. Hi, I am having a problem while shooting my Sony A7 in a studio using manual lens on manual program. I set the aperture and exposure time for flash (i.e. ISO100, 1/200s, f/2.0), but obviously the normal light in the room is about 6-7EV lower. This results in the following - I cannot set the focus properly with the normal light as the viewfinder is dark. Do you have any solution for that: i.e. some way to bump ISO just for focusing? Thanks in advance!
  2. Hi, I am trying to setup DMF on a Sony A9 and as I understand it you should go to FOCUS MODE in the menu however that does not seem to be there, all I have on the first top icon in the menu under 5/14 Focus Area, Focus Settings and Focus Area Limit, if I select Focus Settings it takes me to a blank LCD screen, DMF is also not under the Fn button list. I am trying to set this up by the use of the AEL button that I also use for BBF. New to Sony from Canon so please laymens terms if you can advise. Thankyou, Russ.
  3. Hi all. I was shooting birds with my a6600 this weekend and experienced multiple-second lockup of the "live" image on my viewfinder when activating the auto-focus. Here are more details: Focus set to AF-C continuous. Camera configured for rear-button activation of auto-focus (autofocus is not engaged by pressing main shutter release button half-way). Everything worked fine for about an hour. I took hundreds of photos. Then things started acting up. When I pressed the rear-button to activate auto-focus, the viewfinder image would freeze for about 2-4 seconds before showing live image again. And of course my bird would move within those couple seconds. A few things I tried unsuccessfully to fix the problem: Used rear display instead of viewfinder. Tried AF-S instead of AF-C. Changed away from and back to my M2 shooting mode (which is a custom camera mode I've configured for bird photography): Manual mode, Auto ISO, rear-button AF-C. Cycled power on the camera. Removed memory card, and then inserted and formatted a different memory card. Then, I removed the battery from the camera, waited 10 seconds and put the battery back in. This solved the problem and I continued shooting for another hour without problems. My experience was probably similar to what is shown in the video here, though it is difficult to tell from the video if activation of AF is initiating freeze-up of the "live" display: https://www.sonyalphaforum.com/topic/12851-a6400-lcd-viewer-freezes-in-photo-mode/?tab=comments#comment-51290 Has anyone else experienced this problem or know what causes it? Best regards, Brad Mitchell
  4. Hi, A fellow Sony user is having an issue with his 100-400 on his A9. In 45 minutes of use this happens four or five times. The AF display is there are black. He attempts to focus on anything, infinity or close to force the lens to focus and nothing happens. A restart of the camera gets it going each time. Things improved at bit after updating to V6 firmware. It stays operational longer and a restart seems to always fix it. With V5 that wasn’t always the case. He called Sony and they had him send it in. They said they fixed it but when he got the lens back it behaved the same way. He also has a 200-600 that does not behave this way but the number of in focus images is not consistent with what I am getting with an A9 and 200-600. Has anyone had this issue with the a9/100-400 combination? Thanks. Bob
  5. Hi Does anybody else struggle manual focusing on the a7sii screen, its almost impossible for me to work without a external monitor!. i use the zoom in focus feature, but it doesn't seem to help, when the clips are exported they are always sharp, but always look blurred on the a7sii screen like the led screen isnt in focus ! Any Help Thanks
  6. G'day I have an A35 and A55 both with the same problem. Neither can seem to focus. It seems to think that the scroll under the shutter button is being moved as the shutter speed is constantly changing. I can't access the menu as any menu I open will close almost immediately after being opened. For whatever reason my Sigma 10-20mm lens works fine but my 3 Sony lenses and my tamron lens also does not work. Thanks for any help
  7. First time user of any forums. If this isn't the place to ask questions and get advice, I apologize in advance. I have a NEX 5 and more recently an a6000. I bought the 6000 because of its higher resolution. I have some basic questions as follow: 1. I use DMF along with AF-A focus to bring a specific object into sharp focus (using the focus ring) with the shutter halfway down until focused then press the shutter the rest of the way. If I let up on the shutter after focusing at the half way mode and then press it all the way down does the specific object remain in focus? Even if I shift the camera to a different angle? Do I need to use AF-C focus? I guess what I'm asking is once you bring something into focus the first time, will it remain in focus for subsequent shots, i.e. bracketing using shutter priority and aperture changes? 2. I bought a simple Remote Control ($10) and it works great. But It isn't capable of doing a half-way down shutter to wait for auto focus to finish. The test shots I've taken all look identical compared to manually using the shutter. But I don't want to take a field trip and come back finding that the focus has been compromised. I see that Sony has a more sophisticated remote for $30 but the reviews aren't good (?). Appreciate any feedback on these topics.
  8. Hope someone can provide a second opinion on this; is this a normal sound for a Sony FE 24-70mm f/4.0 ZA OSS Vario-Tessar when focusing? (see audio I added) It seems to be when it has issues focusing or when a subject is further away; but it had these issues also in normal lighting conditions, outside when taking a picture of a person standing in nature (aka; nothing too tricky). To me it sounds like something is off with the AF motor, but shop I bought it from says it's normal. I also have to add that besides very often having this noise during shooting, it also one time totally stopped focusing (image was blurry and it didn't focus, even though the camera made a bleep focusing sound). Had to turn camera off and dismount/mount lens for it to work again. Also told this to the shop. Would love to hear some more opinions. Convert_audio_1691839510707
