February 17, 20232 yr Hi forum, I purchase a used Sony A7 from MPB (shouter cont: 60.000) everything is working nice and sensor and images are perfect, but I notice that the bayonet is balancing a lot? All of the sensor block and e-mont is wobbling... The upper part of the e-mont is fixed with the camera surface, but the down side is moving in and out, something like 3 or 4 mm. Is this Normal? Thanks for any clarification. Pedro Cordeiro wobbling mont.mp4

February 18, 20232 yr It's a known issue with the original A7 which was rectified by Sony with the A7II. Google "Sony A7 lens mount replacement" you will find many links to the lens mount replacement part and many YouTube videos on how to go about replacing the problematic oem lens mount.

I sow that videos, but got the impressions (probably wrong) that the lens would be wobbling on the mont, but in my case is the e-mont ring that is wobbling in relation to the camera...
February 20, 20232 yr It's the same issue, your body mount has failed and it's a matter of time before something catastrophic happens if you don't get the mount replaced. The body mount on the A7, A7R, A6000 and other earlier e-mount bodies is made up of two pieces, with the critical component that holds the lens in place being made of plastic. This plastic ring is not rigid enough to hold the lens in place causing the lens to wobble. My A6000 which had less than 2000 shutter count when I bought it, the previous owner had only the 16-50 and the 55-210 kit lenses and the mount is already slightly wobbly. I think this wobble was already present from new but probably unnoticed because a basic failure of unstable body mount is unthinkable on a new camera - I never thought about it myself until I read the list of e-mount bodies with 2 piece body mount included the A6000. I have placed an order on eBay for the replacement all metal body mount for my A6000.

My doubts are that, in my case, the silver and the plastic rings from the e-mont are moving 1.5mm in relation to the orange ring that is fixed with the camera, but they are solid with the sensor. (that's why I don't have any image problems) Is this what happens in the known e-mont issue, or is the lens moving inside the mont? If a new total metal ring solves the problem, I will gledly order one...
February 20, 20232 yr The orange ring is part of the chassis and does not move. If you check out the videos online regarding the A7 body mount wobble, the orange ring is stationary while the lens flexes in front of the camera. If you don't mind walking about with a known liability that can be fixed quite simply, please feel free. I don't baby my equipment but I refuse to walk around with a ticking time bomb. As for the image quality, chimp your images in the corners. If the lens is tilted and not parallel to the film plane, the corners would be most affected by the difference.
February 22, 20232 yr You can purchase from Sony parts an all metal Mount from a Sony a7s and place it on your a7. There are a number of after market companies that also make all metal mounts that will get rid of the wobble.
