One question though, is Brian Smith on Sony's payroll? The "gear" section of his website might as well point to http://store.sony.com

Well it's the gear he uses,, no doubt,, like any professional photographer he gets credit and discounts for directing people to the manufactures webpage.

Nikon, Canon professional photographers do the same.

Does he get paid by Sony? who knows maybe,, but the point is this.

He is an established Photographer, well known for his work and he's done it using Sony cameras.

If you look at his work you should be able to see why.

He wasn't getting squat from Sony when he started out using a a700 and old Minolta lenses.

I recall another "famous" photographer from another brand who swore black and blue that he was not on X's payroll, except when he was doing shoots for X (where he was paid above his normal rate), in some exotic locations with a complement of guides ... so thats when he was on X's payroll    Then, to confuse things further, he posted an image of all his gear from company X and it turned out that most of it was given to him by company X.

But still he swears he was not on X's payroll

Brian Smith is really a great photographer, I don't think the camera has much to do with it, but he does seem pretty happy with Sony gear   :)

Matt Granger refers to himself as "That Nikon Guy" and that's just fine.

Point is. Sony cameras are very much ABLE to be used for professional photography. it ultimately lays in the abilities of the photographic artist.

Give my nan a Canon 1Dx and a pro a point and shoot - I know who will have the best photos.

Well obviously the point and shoot would make a better image because a 1Dx alone (without a lens) makes terrible images. ;):P:D

 Seriously though,

i'm sure with her experience in life, your Nan would make awesome photographs.

But what if we gave the Dx1 to a 5 year old and the point and click to your Nan, No doubt Again your Nan would make better photographs

The ability to make good composition and interesting photos is a necessity, no matter what resolution or quality ones camera is.

Of course in this thread, we are not talking about low resolution point and click cameras. ;)

But Interestingly, pros also use point and clicks
