Seems you are correct (and out of luck). I just tested it with my A6500 and 18-105 PZ and can't get it to save/recall focal length. -
I think it can be done on the A7RV but not on IV. Yes no timer on camera, another missing feature, l use a kitchen timer now. You can buy a cheap IR remote, cost about £5 each, l got 2, just in case, keep one in the bag, all the time. -
If you use IR or Bluetooth remote, then power save does not work, crazy. I left mine on by mistake, overnight, battery was flat next day. On Canon no such problem, power dave works even if you use remote controls. There are quite a few features that l took for granted that are missing on Sony.
