I have been randomly experiencing  a magenta spot in the center of of some images taken with my A7RII.  See attached image, just above the columns.  Has anyone else had this happen?  I purchased the camera about 1 year ago from B&H.  What is the path to Sony to seek a solution to this problem?

Hi drewk,

You may be interested in this: Magenta Spot in Image . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

What lens are you using ?

This usually occurs with adapted lenses at smaller apertures and with very bright backgrounds.

It is internal reflections from the lens to sensor and back and can happen with digital cameras.

I should keep quiet about it or we'll all want one? ha ha

Dear Michelb,

First, thanks for the response regards my issue and my best to Montreal.  I have attended 21 F1 races at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and it is truly a great town.

I have experienced my problem using the new G Master 24-70 f2.8 @ 24mm 1/6 sec, f/13 Mode: Av Metering: Multi-segment ISO: 200 White balance: Auto

Flash: Off

You wouldn't think there was anything out of the ordinary.  So what does one do about this?

The only solution is to avoid shooting with very bright highlights in the frame at smaller apertures.

And yet, it is unfortunately unpredictable.

I was trying to reproduce this just yesterday using 1974-76 Minolta MC Rokkor lenses and it happened less than i expected but when seeing that, just placing my hand above the lens shade ( I always use the original shade) and moving my free hand without having it in the frame, i was able to minimize it.

It all depends on how bright and at what angle the stray light hits the sensor and back to the aperture blades and back to the sensor to create this.

Great to know there are some F1 fans coming to town. where are you from ?

I would have guessed that it is an internal reflection/flare as you are partly shooting against the bright sky. It's a little curious that the spot is almost center, but that could be due to the construction of the lens.

Perhaps the best course is to e-mail the photo to the vendor and ask if they have any idea. If necessary they can put you in touch with the proper Sony channel.

I'm from Saint Louis, and it has become increasingly difficult to fly to Montreal.  Also in recent years the hotel rates have gone to over the top levels.  I do miss dinner at Napoleon and Europea though.  Also, the lobster festival.  It's a great town!

Re the original issue, in all the years I've been shooting digital, I've never experienced this  problem.  Is it Sony peculiar?
