Play Memories App and connectivity

Hi all,

 

Has anyone else had any trouble connecting their phone to the A7Rii?  I realised recently that I do not have a remote for the Sony to let me use bulb mode.  I thought to myself that the NFC and WiFi connectivity must let me do this via a phone.  (iPhone 6S Plus)

 

I have not spent too long trying to get them to connect, but I wondered if any of you had problems connecting a smart phone for what ever reason?

 

I am currently looking into other dedicated remotes.

 

Thoughts?

My Galaxy S6 connects no problem. My S4, however, needed the mobile data switched off before it would connect.

I never was successful in getting the NFC to work with my Samsung S4.  However, PlayMemories Android works great with the A7MII.  This is how I setup WiFi sync; Step one go to the Application Menu, scroll over to Remote Control select, next start the PlayMemories app on you phone.  The camera will start looking for a network.  It should see the Smartphone. They should create a WiFi network giving complete control of the camera.  My experience is if I do not follow this order of operation the connection between devices isn't always successful.
