October 19, 201510 yr Just been through a long journey, trying to fit my MD Rokkor 85mm 1.7, to my A 7 II. MC & MD refers to the lens only. They both use the Minolta SR mount. They will Not fit the Sony A mount. In 1985 Minolta changed to the Maxxum system, and was still in use, when Sony bought Minolta. So the Maxxum & later Dynax lenses, will fit straight onto what Sony call the A mount. So far, all Sony's adapters, accept A mount lenses only. In one renowned camera shop, they tried mounting a Sony adapter to my A 7 II, then had to use a second adapter ( Non Sony ) to fit the MD to the camera. Needless to say, using 2 adapters did not work. I have a straightforward metal tube labeled Nex - MD. To use it, I have to go to Aperture priority & via the on screen menu, scroll to Manual Focus. From there, the rest is on the lens, ie aperture ring & focus. Turning the camera knob to Manual does not work, as it then comes up on screen : Lens not Attached. So I am guessing M on the knob, only works with Sony lenses, or whatever it has electrical connection to. Hope this saves someone a lot of frustration.

October 19, 201510 yr Yup. That's the way it works with all legacy, manual focus lenses. You buy a "dumb" adaptor (no electrical contacts) for your legacy mount to Nex mount, turn on "Release without lens" ("Gear" icon, tab 4 - "Release w/o Lens") and then use Aperture Priority. (Or full manual) Trick 1: set up one of the Custom buttons (I use C2) to magnify the focusing area. ("Gear" icon, tab 6 - "Custom Key Settings") Two taps on the Custom key and you're image magnifies 6x. A third tap goes to 11x. 4th tap or 1/2 shutter press brings you back to 100%. Trick 2: You need to tell the camera the focal length of the MD (or any adapted) lens, so the IBIS works correctly. ("Camera" icon, tab 7 - "Steady Shot Settings") You can also assign that function to another Custom button! (I use C4)
