I am photographing some deep maroon/blood red Knockout roses, yet in camera, the viewfinder image renders the reds almost 2 stops and several shades of neon lighter. All other colors ok, as expected. Sony a7v with Sony 50/1.2 GM. What's up with this? (Yes, I know I can fix it in post. The question is: why does this happen.)

Are you shooting in Raw or Jpeg? What are your Jpeg settings? As with the Histogram, I assume the viewfinder is showing the subject based on your Jpeg settings. Try setting them to neutral and see if that makes a difference.

Found somethings weird:

1. A visual comparison between the monitor v viewfinder showed some slight difference. The monitor was slightly closer to what I was seeing with my naked eye. The brightening neon effect is mostly a VF thing.

2. The imported into LrC raw files, dng or arw are also ok.

3.  I played with the VF color temp setting which is supposed to compensate for differences between the VF and Monitor. I couldn't notice any change in camera, but the imported into the computer files were definitely affected.

Nuts.
