A7R5 won’t allow full manual control in M Mode

Hi, new Sony user coming from Nikon. My A7R5 will not allow manual control of aperture, shutter and ISO in full manual mode. Shutter on the back dial works fine but when I roll the aperture dial or the iso dial it displays the Av Tv Ev icons on the screen with a circle and cross indicating I can’t set them independently. Any one know how to turn this off so I can have full control?

Which dials are you using? I think that might be your problem.

I ask because I know that the A7RV supports full manual control.

The front dial and rear left dial control shutter and aperture.

The rear right dial (the lockable one), by default, is exposure compensation- is that the one that is troubling you? I haven’t turned it during Manual mode because it’s locked), so I don’t know what it does. What you report sounds possible, because exposure compensation does not make sense in manual mode.

And the wheel on the back is separate from all of that (although by default you can use it to control ISO by pressing down on the right edge. I usually set ISO to 100 when working in manual (because it is normally in the studio). I don’t have a dial set to ISO.

Ooh, I just noticed that your screenshot is showing the dial assignments!

I see that the Av dial is disabled. Any chance you are using a lens with an aperture ring that is not on A? The aperture wheel will be disabled if aperture control has been ceded to the aperture ring.

And exposure compensation is disabled because you are in M mode - doesn’t make sense to have Ec in M because the camera does not have control of anything to be able to apply Ec.

Thanks so much for your reply, it was the lens not set to A that was overriding the aperture control on the Camera!! Seems to be working fine now
