Hello everyone. I have a few question to help me decide between couple lens I own.

I have :

1- The 24-240mm FE f3.5/6.3 superzoom

2- The Canon 24-105 f/4 with Commlite adapter

3- The 28-135 f/4 cine lens

I would like to keep only one lens as changing lens is not really my thing. I understand the advantage of having a constant max aperture while zooming as you can have the same amount of light coming in.

I want to understand if there is a really noticeable IQ difference between those lens if we assume the light is sufficient for a fast shutter speed.

1) I like this lens because it is light and versatile. When shooting sunrise sunset and stars I usually put my tripod so no big deal.

2) This lens attract me because of the constant aperture, and the control on the lens like the focus marks. But why this lens is the same price as the 24-240 if it is suppose to be much better (constant aperture ... ), Also this lens suffer from bad autofocus so I pretty much have to focus manually.

3) This lens was the best of both world for me, nice control on the lens, power zoom for video, constant aperture, accurate autofocus. But this lens is really really big and I wonder if I would be able to spend a whole day shooting handheld with it.

So Can I get more precision on the IQ of those lens, if they make a big difference ? I would like to pick only one and the range of all of those lens is good for me ( 24-70 is not enough to consider the zeiss ).

I am shooting handled in the street, museum and wildlife. Using a tripod for sunset, sunrise and stars.

Thanks for any help !!

Given that you own the three lenses, yours is an easier dilemma than someone wondering which one to buy.

My choice would be the cine lens. But so what?!

You can do the objective tests yourself (lucky you!) and from then on, it's subjective. And your opinion is the only one that counts.

A nice dilemma to have I think.

I actually ran some little informal tests at different zoom but I wanted to make sure I don't miss any universally true points here. I really like the cine lens, the only downside I see for me is the size as I am used to carry my camera+lens on a belt mount.

The canon suffer from autofocus precision ( not so much speed ), but some of the picture produce after autofocus are blurry. In the contrary manual focus is deadly sharp.

I think I am going for the cine lens as this is the most versatile lens of the three and offer decent performance. I will try it this week end in every situation I can think of. If I don't rush to post a comment here, it will mean that the lens is pretty much my final choice.

I'm sort of in the same boat as well. For me I currently have the 28-135, which is an amazing lens. But just like OP stated, the weight is a big problem. Personally, I find that I shoot photos 90% of the time with 10% video. Having the extra weight is hard to justify carrying it over long instances.

Also, I find that using the S35 mode for video is making the most out of the A7rII's sensor. In that case, the 28-135 becomes a 45-216. Something I'm considering is getting the FE 16-35 instead. It's a wonderful wide angle photography lens, and in S35 mode, it becomes 25-56. It's much lighter and it won't be doubling up on my fast primes in the middle range either. For 50/50 photo/video shooters, the 28-135 is a great lens. But after some testing, I'm almost convinced that the FE 16-35 route might be better for me. What do you guys think? Or am I missing something in my considerations as well? Something I don't know is if the 16-35 has a quiet enough zoom and if the A7rII has a good enough IBIS for video shooting.

And lastly, if it's mostly photos, I think waiting for the next FE 24-70/2.8 might be an option as well.

I'm scared that if I return the cine lens I will regret it big time !

oh god this is a hard choice !!

I am also considering keeping the 24-240mm and buy an ultra sharp prime lens for the same amount of cash as the cine lens.
