16-50 wish

I have a bit of a love hate affair with the Sony 16-50 kit lens, I love it's size, how did Sony make a decent zoom length, AF and OSS lens in such a tiny package. I love the fact that the wide end is actually more like 14.7mm not 16mm and can forgive the black corners and distortion. But what irritates me is that when my a6000 goes into sleep mode the lens retracts, why can't it stay where it is until I switch the camera off? To make things worse it automatically sets itself to the 16mm setting. Surely Sony could give us an option to keep the lens extended in a firmware update?
