  1. Hi there, Sorry If this a bit misplaced in the forum but I’d really liked to throw this question to (sony) users rather than any pre-sales support. I've just tested Capture One for few minutes and wondering if I'm wasting time. Initially it feels to fail on the same criteria as Darktable and Corel's Aftershot Pro (sadly these are the only linux alternatives). I hope I'm wrong.. but I can’t actually find any tutorial or any relevant information online on bulk editing images with Capture One. (Just exporting). Anyway in LR I really like the “Auto tuning” possibilities. What I mean is that before even digging into invidual images the software can adjust the exposure, lens correction and even having LR to guess the white balance in just very few steps I can get everything to more neutral state. It's not instant but I can enjoy a cup of coffee in between so It's not a problem. I'm not afraid to leave my finger on the shutter just to get the right moment, so therefor the amount of files tend to pile up. A template or not doesn't matter as long as it's an easy workflow without lots of manual steps. Corel's Aftershot is a terrible example of static templates how the software is non-aware of the content, templates would be only usable if all images are the same cause it really just applies static settings, which is just tragic. Any can Capture One Pro do this? Thanks in advance for any input.
  2. When I first attached my new A7R to my new MacBook it would not connect at all. I then tried it on my older iMac and the Live View set to USB PC Remote worked. After several contacts with Apple, Sony and Phase One (Capture One), I installed new A7R firmware and Remote Camera Control software. I finally got it to work on the Macbook BUT no Live View, just tether. I then tried it again on the iMac and it no longer worked??? Only after several hours of trial and error what I ended up with is that I can tether the A7R in Capture One but no Live View - its not supported for this. I got this camera specifically to shoot tethered and have Live View in Capture One. So after spending a lot on hardware and software all I got was tether. I already had that with Lightroom for Hasselblad but Sony is not supported by Adobe. All this proprietary stuff is complete nonsense and a waste of time. Welcome to the 21st century - Not! Very disappointed with Sony, Phase One and Lightroom. I really regret having made these investments.
  3. Hello! I’m new to Capture One 10 for Sony, and have a question about the Lens Correction tool (I’m coming over from Lightroom). Capture One automatically selects my lens, and ticks/applies “chromatic aberration” and “hide distorted areas” with all else set to “0%”. Does this mean that although the profile for my lens was automatically selected and correcting for chromatic aberration, it has not applied correction to distortion, sharpness falloff or light fall off? To do so I would need to adjust these three to 100%? In fact they go up to 120%, whatever that means? The help file doesn’t answer that question. Also, whilst I’m here, can I ask about sharpening and noise reduction. I’ve noticed the noise reduction slider for luminance, detail, and colour are always at 50. Is this an automatic correction and nothing else needs to be done? Same for sharpening, the amount is always 160, radius 1, threshold 1. I’ve tried watching the tutorial videos and webinars and can’t find the answers to my questions. Thanks.
  4. (Cross Posted on various Forums) Hey All, I just wanted to post a quick note about today’s launch of Capture One Pro 8.2. Normally I don’t make a point of advertising ‘dot’ releases but we have added a very exciting new tool in Capture One. The Color Balance tool (whilst existing in previous versions of Capture One) has had an extensive upgrade. With the new 3-Way Color Balance, no knowledge of color blending or third party plug-ins are required to create beautifully color graded images. Color tone changes can be made in the shadows, the highlights or the mid-tones. Have a look at the attached screen grab (Photo credit www.petewebb.com), to give you an idea. This is a great way to apply color grading to an image without relying on presets and filters. Although a similar result can be achieved using levels and curves, it is not as easy to reach the desired tone, plus in the new tool, color is decoupled from lightness and saturation. There is a tutorial video here… And stand by for blog posts on the subject at blog.phaseone.com and a great webinar tomorrow with Pratik Naik from Solstice Retouch. Sign up here… https://attendee.got...817020592082433 Pratik will take us through his color workflow and make use of the new tool. There are more webinars in the future too where you can learn about this tool, and Capture One in general.. http://www.phaseone....-webinars.aspx 8.2 also adds ‘Dynamic Locations’ (new tokens for changing the path of an image file based on items such as color tag, star rating and much more), 5k Previews plus new camera and lens support. Give it a try out on a free 30 day trial… http://www.phaseone....ture-One-8.aspx Thanks, David
