AF NIKKOR 28-85mm 1:3.5-4.5 - what adapter for a6000

Recommended Posts

I have a AF NIKKOR 28-5mm 1:3.5-4.5.   I think its late 1980's.  The focus ring is rubber and the focus distance info is internal to the lens, behind a plastic window.

What is the best adapter if I want to use the AF features and what are the issues,if any.

If I want to use it as a "vintage lens, manual focus what is the best adapter.

What is the quality of the lens and how well does it work on the a6000

I have a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 on my A6, and I'm using a K&F Concept adapter (F to E mount) that I bought from Amazon for around $25-30. You can also get them from eBay. Works extremely well. Seem to be a good brand. Got the idea from the guy who created Adjusted Alfa. Hope this helps.

Having several such lenses on hand, and

as someone who uses adapters quite a bit,

I never put that type of lens on an APS-C

camera. It just doesn't make sense. As for

possible reluctance to let your lens "go to

waste", it has little cash value, so you can

sleep OK if it becomes a paper weight. In

the same line of reasoning, if that one lens

is your sole reason for seeking an adapter,

don't even buy a $15 adapter ... just get rid

of that lens for the pocket money it brings.

It's a perfectly useful lens for FF35 format.

But on APSC it's just a huuuge 43-127mm

[equivalent] medium speed lens.

As to AF adapters, there's no way. But for

"dumb" adapters I recommend the Speed

Booster type. These help justify the bulk

and weight of such lenses cuz the lens is

once again a wide-to-short-tele zoom AND

its new optical speed of f/2.5 - f/3.5 clearly

moots the size issue !

As to which SpeedBoosters to consider, I

can tell you by experience to forget about

the Vello [aka Commlite], the ZhongYi is a

decent if not stellar affordable choice [aka

Mitakon], and acoarst there's the King of

the Hill, the MetaBones.

-------------------------------------------------------

All the local On-Line-Experts will insist that

the MetaBones is overpriced and not worth

the difference. If you can't go the difference

you will very likely find the lesser versions

are worth the price, not bad really. Acoarst

I don't know your finances, but if buying the

MetaBones is not painful to your pocket, do

NOT do any cost-benefit rational estimates,

cuz the Metabones PROPORTIONALLY is

overpriced. But it IS definitely the best and

second place isn't even close. IOW they've

got a monopoly on "bestness" and set their

price knowing they have a monopoly :-(

    • I'd opt for a small zoom, but I must admit that there seems to be a dearth of lenses in the e-mount in the 24-50mm range -- for some reason.  I have a small 24-70mm, but that's an a-mount Tamron.  Maybe you can find something by looking at lenses slightly longer.  I have a heavy, but small 24-100mm a-mount, and Tokina made a 24-200mm a-mount.  Maybe there are similar lenses in the e-mount.  Kill three birds with one stone.
    • Well this! Thank you! I have been following suggestion after suggestion for the past 3 hours with my a7CR and never thought of removing the battery. Magic!
    • I recently got an a7cii and to pair with the compact body, I thought of getting 2 of the trio compact lenses, 24mm F2.8 and 40mm F4.0. (I already have a 70-200mm) However I stumbled upon the newly released 24-50mm F2.8 G. I'm not sure which to get - I like the small factor of the prime lenses ON the body because it's discreet and helps me blend in as an average tourist / doesn't make it obvious when doing street. But if I add the dimensions of the 2 primes together, it takes up more space in the bag than the zoom lens. BUT THEN, the weight of the 2 prime lenses is 110g lesser than the zoom lens. The zoom lens has the added benefit of being more versatile.   So now I'm stumped. Each has their pros and cons and I can't decide which to get. I'd like to hear the views of you guys who are more experts at this.   Edit: I'm a bit concerned about weight because the last time I went overseas my shoulders were aching from carrying too much. Which is why I was looking for small compact primes in the first place.
