There are 4 Sony-made adapters for use with A-mount lenses on E-mount cameras. The one you get depends on the camera. Features vary from lens to lens. 2 of them are for APS-C, so those can be removed from the equation. That leaves the LA-EA4, and LA-EA5. The 5 works on cameras from the original A1 and newer, while the 4 works on older cameras. I have had both. The 5 is much better, it's also smaller and lighter. If you can swing at least an A7 IV or A7cII, the 5 would work. I have used many of the Minolta A-Mounts on my E-Mount cameras and still have the 85/1.4, the 500/8 AF Reflex (amazing reflex lens, and AF to boot!), the 28-135/4-4.5, and the 100-200. They will work fine. You will experience a slight delay in AF from the time you press the button, so keep that in mind when shooting action. AF will be a bit slower, but it never caused me any significant problems because I learned to anticipate, to the extent possible. I am told that the later A-mount lenses from Sony and others with the AF motor in the lens work a bit faster. I never used one, my experience is solely with the AF motor in the body screw drives. If you poke around, Sony has a page that will tell you compatibility between cameras and lenses and tell you what features to expect will work. Example: The Minolta 80-200/2.8 APO HS G can use the camera's tracking system, and does it pretty well, whereas the 500/8 AF Reflex only has a center fixed focus box. There are a lot of excellent A-mount lenses out there, and they can be dirt cheap compared to their E-mount counterparts. -
I am considering buying an A7 mirrorless full frame but considering the use of my 600mm and other lens ( fulll frame ) which were used on my A99. Is there an adaptor for using A-mount lens on E-mount cameras? What are the issues using these adaptors? Things like autofocus etc. Is traveling with them going to be a problem? Thanks for any pointers.
