I just received my hvl-f20m flash with multifunction hot shoe. When I first attached it to my nex6, a "accessories not compatible" message appeared. Yet in P mode, the flash still flashed, but the picture was very dark. Please help me set up this f20m to work with my nex6 hot shoe. If it is truly not compatible,  please refer me to a flash that is compatible with the nex6. Thank you.

Did you do any research prior to purchasing the flash to find out if it is compatible with your camera?

There was nothing about nex6 hot shoe compatible flash, not on sony camera site, and not even in youtube. So I gave it a try.

It should work. It was listed in the marketing specs.

Was the flash new ? If not, did it come with the foot protector ? These front contacts are very fragile.

See attached picture of the foot of a HVL-F60RM foot where the front contacts were damaged and made the flash unreliable in exposure and occasionally displayed the non compatible message.

Yes. It is a used flash that came with a shoe protector cover. The pins looked fine. Please advice. Thank you.

Is your camera’s firmware up to date? I’m not familiar with that camera. I don’t know what else to suggest.

With this info and the (excellent) condition of the multi purpose pins, this flash should have worked with my nex 6. Please advice.
