March 15, 20178 yr I was disappointed to find that you can't tether an a77v, after I bought the camera.I got it used off of eBay. Went to see what i could get a Sony that tethered . All of the including the a700 were going for more than the a77v I bought. What gives???
Advertisement Hello Zorrowithclass, Take a look here: Why is it that a older camera costs more than an a77v .
March 16, 20178 yr Sony really dropped the ball regarding remote camera control (RCC or tethering if you prefer) for the A77 model. I never owned it but I recall reading complaints from not very happy customers. There is a 3rd party Android app for remote camera control for a number of Sony models including the A77II. You won't get live view on your device but at least you'll be able to gain more control than a cable release. RCCDroid: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glensk.RCCDroid&hl=en The basic app is free with an option to upgrade to the full version for a few bucks. Even if Sony extended the basic A700 RCC app to work with the A77, you'd still be better off using RCCDroid in my experience. I used it quite often with my A700. FWIW
March 17, 20178 yr It's a bummer but the Mk II is a much better camera and it tethers. So, the best advice would be to sell the Mk I and get a Mk II.
