August 10, 20169 yr Hello all im a new to Sony user and have a strange situation that I dont know a work around for. I have been shooting OCF for a few years so this has me stumped. When shooting OCF on my a7ii with camera set to fill flash there is such a delay to fire a shot that I often miss it.. regardless of Fstop or shutter speed.. but.... if I set that to rear curtain sync its immediate and thus seems backwards.. this would be fine as is works but then my max shutter speed is once again 1/250th... anyone have a clue whats happening or what i can try differently. Im a wedding and portrait photographer and cant work with a delay in shutter release.. equipment listed below Sony a7ii Sigma Art 35 f1.4 Amount adapted 1 Godox AD360 1 Godox Li-ion powered speedlight and a second on the way Thank you in advance for any and all help.. I try the all knowing Google first but nothing Jeremy
August 11, 20169 yr You offer almost no information, as if all users are going to use the same procedure, and so would follow your actions and results. But with so many variables, thaz not the case. And so you'll hafta fill in the gaps and be more explicit as to all the variables. The remark about shutter speed sort of implies your problem involves FP mode. Then a switch to 2nd curtain synch and things are different. If you think about it, 2nd curtain synch can never be in FP mode ... so, two different behaviors. Sony manuals do sukk, but they're not toadally useless. The PDF version is the same manual but cuz it's automated, it's less frustrating and that sometimes helps you figger stuff out.
August 11, 20169 yr How are you triggering your flash? I presume, being off-camera, that it's some wireless trigger, which could well be where the problem lies as it will depend upon how that trigger interprets the Sony flash protocol. It could well be sending a 'fire' signal at the start of the shutter sequence, rather than the end, for rear sync. Also, not all triggers and flash units will support HSS for Sony. Again, it depends upon the protocol used and how it is implemented. Just in case, although I appreciate you are experienced, is your camera set on 'rear sync', or 'slow sync'? In days gone by, when there wasn't as much control or choice, people would often confuse the two, and not all cameras offer both. It would certainly make a difference to the timing of the flash, though.
October 17, 20169 yr I have been having this same problem, and yes! turning red eye off seems to have solved the delay, but why of earth would red eye reduction make a difference on flash/strobe-shutter delay?
