a7s3 Clear Image Zoom Keeps Zooming Out Automatically

I was fooling around with the Clear Image Zoom function on the Sony a7s3. I zoom in on a subject and inexplicably the camera automatically starts zooming out and it won't stop until it gets to 1.1. And it does the zooming out at the rate set under the rate setting meaning if I set it to a faster rate, the auto zoom out happens faster and vice-versa. Even trying to hold the zoom Tight button doesn't work as it just starts switching back and forth between 1.5 and 1.4 constantly. (My lens is the Sony G-master 24mm 1.4. set to AF, in-camera f-stop control and Click on)

 

Is there a ghost in my machine or am I doing something dumb?
