  1. Hi I am using the T685s in conjunction with vintage Zeiss leses alternatively adapted with Novoflex and TechartPro adapters. In both cases, TTL flash works flawlessly. Enjoy! Marc
  2. I would strongly suggest Godox. I had Metz years ago and then switched from Metz to Yongnuo and then to Godox, which supports all the features like HSS and TTL plus the also have a very good remote trigger... This picture was taken with a Godox 685s on a lightstand with a shoot through umbrella. https://500px.com/photo/245870527/sw-by-marc-contaxtonikon?ctx_page=1&from=user&user_id=5852514 Set the camera up to 1/200 @ f1.4 and let the flash set itself via TTL - piece of cake. The kit 685 plus the trigger X1 will set you back about USD 150 - that's hard to beat
  3. Hi Rich, I am an avid user of vintage lenses with my A7II. Loving it - in fact the systems adaptability to vintage lenses was the motivation for my switch from Nikon Regarding your question, I fail to see why you would chose the A7RIII over the A7RII since it seems to me that the improvements are mainly around improved AF performance, which would appear pointless - unless you will also use native lenses. With regards to adapters, I would recommend http://www.novoflex.com/index.php I used a cheaper adapter for my Zeiss lenses at first but in my experience only the Novoflex emulates the same sense of quality and haptics as these gorgeous lenses. Enjoy the experience! Marc
  4. I have cautiously started out with 1 TTs685 with whe remote trigger, loved it, sold off my Yongnuo flashes and now own a set of 3 685s. I think that i all the flash power I'll ever need.https://500px.com/photo/180380701/iron-curtain-by-marc-contaxtonikon?ctx_page=1&from=user&user_id=5852514
  5. Hi, I bought the A7II because I have of CY glass - especially the 85/1.4. I never lookde back to my Nikon D700 - love every minute of it. I recently added the Techart Pro adapter which essentially replicates the Idea of the Contax AX by providing AF capabilities to these lenses. It doesn't work that well with zoom lenses or with the 200mm but anything upto and including the 2.8/135 Sonnar works like a charm What lenses do you actually own? I have Distagon 2.8 / 28 Planar 1.7 / 50 Planar 1.4 / 85 Sonnar 2.8 / 135 Tele Tessar 3,5 / 200 Vario-Sonnar 4.0 / 80-200 Vario-Sonnarar 3.3-4.0 / 28-85 Mutar I 2x Enjoy! Marc
  6. Hi, regarding 1) - I believe that there are such adapters - at least there used to be... as the high voltage plagued flashes are mostly defunct, they may no longer be available though. regarding 2) before buying such a low profile flash, I would consider that the very fact that it fires so close to the lens, will enhance the "red eye" problem, which is caused by proximity of the flash to the lens. Not a good thing...
  7. I can highly recommend the Godox TT685s with its remote trigger I came from Nikon and Yongnuo flashes, which I hugely preferred over the Metz flash that I kept safely in my bag after a costly repair (more expensive than buying a new Yongnuo flash) The Godox have TTL, HSS and everything else the Sony system offers. The apparent quality is on the same high standard as Yongnuo
  8. I had the same exact problems until I "accidentally" used the camera without glasses after adjusting the viewfinder to my eyesight. After experiencing that, my sense that the Nikon viewfinders were alright with glasses was proven wrong. Now I just take off my glasses and everything is perfect.
  9. have you tried the complimentary capture one pro raw converter? I think its much better than Adobe anyway. You can use that to convert arw to psd and then just continue working with your existing adobe applications. Not sure which OSX you'll need though
  10. I can only encourage you. I sold off my Nikon gear (D700 plus lenses) after getting the A7II to use with my CONTAX Zeiss lenses. After a short "probation", I completely got out of Nikon I use the 2.8 / 28, the 1.7/50, my favourite 1.4/85 and the 2.8 / 200 I also own the Yashica 2.8/135, which I am just rediscovering and the 28-85 and 80-200 Zooms. All of the Zeiss lenses give me more pleasure in use than the Nikon lenses I had. Manual focus is easier than I anticipated. Notwithstanding that, I am still sitting on the fence regarding the Techart Pro adapter, which I love conceptiually as it picks up the idea of th CONTAX AX, which I also own. To your question regarding adapters. I started out with a "cheap" Fotodiox adapter which works fine. I wound up buying the much more expensive Novoflex adapter, which just feels better. I just didn't make sense to me to ditch my Nikon gear and switch to Sony / Zeiss and then skimp on the adapter. The haptics of the Novoflex just fit much better to the ensembl than the cheaper products. Sorry for the long winded response. I would be curious to hear about your experience with the 135 on the Sony. I am considering trading up from the Yashica to the Zeiss...
  11. late afternoon outdoor shoot in the vineyards @ Geisenheim / Rhein
  12. I'm still debating regarding the 18mm. Prices on the lens have risen dramatically and I'm debating whether the Samyang 14mm for E-mount actually makes more sense
  13. Does that mean that you have the Distagon 18 as well? I would be very curious about that lens...
