Sony a7r III from Canon Question

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have recently moved from a Canon 5D IV to a Sony a7rIII. I am still learning how to use all the functions ...

There is only one feature that I am trying to find at this point and I am wondering if anyone can help me with this ..

On my Canon, whenever I set the dial to FULL AUTO, which I do when I give my camera to my wife,  the whole camera went to a set of simple defaults, especially the focusing system would set to zone ... Is there a way to do this on the Sony?

Guillermo

In the memories you can set everything to your liking. Something like m1: wife, m2: action, m3: landscape.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I tried the C1, C2... etc but it would not let me store the focusing mode ...

I think you should dive in the manual. It is certainly possible. When you are in the set-up of your memory you choose focus type (single, continuous etc) and focus method (zone, spot etc. ) and it will be stored. For sure!

Hi,

So I have looked at the manual. I can set the AF w/Shutter parameter in Menu/Setup1/AF2 ... however when I try to store this to MR1-3 this option does not show up. It does store many of the options but apparently not this one.

Thanks for your help

You are in the wrong part of the menu.  To start with you set all parameters you want your wife to use. Focus area, single focus, continuous focus, you name it. You can set everything to your liking, aperture , iso min / max.  Then you go to the menu (camera icon)1, page 3, then the 5th item from the top:  Memory. You then see an overview of your current settings and you can choose which memory you want to save these settings to.  1,2, and 3 are on the dial, m1 m2 m3 and m4 will be stored on your memory card (one of them). These will be lost if you format the card.

Have you tried the green auto mode on the mode dial?

The green auto mode changes settings according to what it thinks the camera sees. It takes no account for, for instance, fast moving items. It's even easier to buy your wife a good mobile Phone.

Sorry, I misread the original post and thought he just wanted something simple to hand to his wife to take a picture...didn't realize green auto had been tried and found insufficient.
