A7R2, Switching between FF and APS-C size images

I use my A7r2 with a 70-330 FE SEL Lens and would like to easily switch between FF and APS-C size when in the field without looking through the menus.  I tried to set this up using the Memory Recall capability only to find that I could not set it to work.  Is it possible to set this function to a button, or, is it possible to use the Memory Recall function in some manner that is not apparent from the material I reviewed?

Unfortunately, the APS-C/Super 35mm menu item is not one that can be assigned to a button or assigned to the function menu in the a7Rii.

I wonder what the reasoning behind omitting that function from button assignment is?  Was it an oversight or is there some reason stemming from the way it is coded in firmware that prohibits assignment of the function to a button, or to Custom Setting either 1 or 2?  As I get to use this Camera, I generally find the controls and menus well thought out and in comparison to my prior D810, easer to use while in the field.

I have no insight into the reasoning behind this, but as a former real-time software coder, my guess is that they were limited by the amount of on-board memory they had to work with.

Thanks, that is a reasonable assessment  of why they do not allow  it.   I wonder if the later model a7r3 permits it?
