Long Time Photographer - New To Sony

I am a U.S. Navy retired photographer who also did some commercial photography in my younger days.  I have been shooting Canon Digital Cameras for over 14 years and am now seriously considering the A7iii mainly because of its great auto focus and also because I can also use many of my Canon lenses with this camera.  However, I am not in a hurry to get a new camera (I am shooting now with a Canon 7D2 and a 6D2) and will wait until Sony unveils the much talked about A6700 (or whatever they will call it).  I am not wedded to full frame and could easily consider a crop version of the Sony A9 if that is actually what the new Sony will offer.  I no longer shoot professionally except that I am the photographer for a dog rescue group Maltese Rescue California and photograph a few hundred rescue dogs each year. A crop format camera would suit me just fine...

I opted for a used A6500 due to price and size.

A6500 is a great little camera, I used mine a lot before I upgraded to the A9.
