Zeiss Sonnar f:2.8 85mm, C/Y mount on Sony NEX-7

This lens is from my old Contax SLR system. The bodies are long gone, but all of the Zeiss lenses are still functional with my Sony NEX-7 and a6000.

If my memory is correct, I purchased this lens about 15 years ago for $125.

The detail section is at 100%.

The adapter is as big as the lens.

Hey, no doubt this little SONNAR lens is still a killer!  I am using myself with joy a row of C/Y Zeiss glasses on my A7 and A6000!

ZM will be compact indeed, but at quite a cost and without any advantage in terms of usability, IMHO, like instead the Loxia line would give you (automatic magnification, exif data).

Contax glass, on the other hand, is almost always of extreme quality and much cheaper. And you can choose to go big and heavy (35/1.4, 85/1.4, 28-85 etc.) or to keep things nice and small (28/2.8, 35/2.8, 50/1.7 or 1.4, 85/2.8). And remember that as long as you stick to one brand you can carry just one single adapter, so adapter thickness or weight is not a big deal.

This Zeiss 85mm f/2.8 lens is terrific on both APS-C and A7 cameras. On the A7-ii, the in-body image stabilization is a champ. Lens is small and light, a nice combination with these cameras. It's an overlooked lens in the Zeiss C/Y, still moderately priced.

Manual focus with focus-peaking works very well for me. If needed, I have the C1 button programmed for focus assist magnification. Zeiss 50mm f/1.7 is also terrific. I use it for portraits with my APS-C cameras.
