Sony 90mm macro looks dull and washed out?

I recently got the 90mm macro with high hopes.

 

I'm not sure if it's supposed to look so washed out and soft, but I feel like it maybe shouldn't. I couldn't load a whole raw file up here so i exported to JPEG through camera raw (completely untouched from raw). Please let me know if you think this is acceptable from this lens.

That is RAW.  Cook your image a bit, either in post or shoot RAW and JPEG simultaneously.  I love the rendering of my lens:

Yes I'm aware that it's raw. It's just that with the 50mm macro taking a very similar shot with the same settings, that file is much less washed out with more contrast.

 

I just want to know if this is something to expect with the 90mm...

Snapped this shot 90mm  jpeg and raw (5.1M) on A6500.

The black point is raised quite a bit in the file. That's why the shadows are washed out.

 

It's a settings error, either in the camera or in camera raw.

 

The photo can be saved by dropping black in your software. But you should check your settings so you get a correct histogram for future photos.

Geoffreyg123 , I wouldn't be happy with those results, but it looks like there may be a setting problems with your camera. I would try shooting in automatic just to see if that makes a difference.

I have not experienced any washed out results with the 90 mm. Below 2 screenprints from LR, orchid original (bottem) is a raw imported into LR, nothing done to it other then the LR profile applied during the import. Orchid adjusted (top)  is with my own preferred setting.   ISO250 f/8 at 1/40sec.

Like I said, there's a technical flaw in the file. The black point is raised to about 25 (should be between 0 and 4). That's all there is to it.
